What is Model Un?

Model United Nations, or “MUN” for short, aims to simulate proceedings of the real-world United Nations, bringing together delegates to debate important topics of an international scope. It is a great way to earn experience in problem-solving, public speaking, collaboration, and global awareness. These skills are put to the test at conferences, which bring together delegates from many schools to work together towards sustainable solutions towards relevant world issues. Although the simulations are fake, the problems at hand are often very topical and relevant to the world today.

What sets apart MUN at UCSD?

We pride ourselves on fostering a community of delegates from all backgrounds, skill levels, and bases of knowledge.

It doesn’t matter if you’re in STEM, the Humanities, or the Social Sciences; nor does it matter if you’ve got any MUN, debate, or mock trial experience.

MUN is an organization that really has a place for anyone. There are so many ways to join and plenty of opportunities to get involved by traveling or staffing conferences. All it takes to begin your MUN journey is showing up at meetings.

What do we Do during the Year?

Members of MUN at UCSD have the opportunity to participate in three main aspects of our club: competitive travel, conference staffing, and partaking in our own club activities. Participation in conferences is on an individual basis, which means that commitment during the year can be very flexible! Click the buttons below to learn more about each aspect of the club.

  • Any student of UCSD, undergraduate or graduate, can join at any point during the year! Feel free to stop by at one of our meetings (schedule listed on the “Schedule” tab) or preliminarily check out our discord (listed under “Contact”).

  • At first Model UN can take some getting used to; however, in our club we are always willing to teach those wanting to learn. Many of our members join because of an interest in international relations or politics, but have never participated in MUN before. Trust us, we've got you!

  • There is no official “sign up” for just being a part of the club— just show up to meetings! However, the best ways to get news about our upcoming conferences and travel opportunities is to join or our discord. See “Contact” in the above menu to learn more.

  • We have no formal participation requirements for members looking to learn more! However, if you wish to travel with us or help host conferences (see respective pages on the home page), then requirements become a little more strict. Check out our travel and home conference pages to learn more about those specific requirements. Generally, we have 2 meetings for regular members each week in which we hold training sessions and debate exercises.
